A column assist type electric power steering system is provided to elastically support an end of a work shaft by an elastic part and absorb lateral vibration or shock by the elastic part, thereby optimizing engagement between a worm gear and a worm wheel. A column assist type electric power steering system(10) includes a worm shaft(40) formed with a worm gear(41), a worm wheel(50), a housing(30), a motor(20), a connection part(60), and an elastic member(70). The worm wheel rotates in the engagement with the worm gear, thereby rotating a steering shaft(51). The housing surrounds the worm shaft and the worm wheel. The motor is coupled with a side of the housing and drives a motor shaft(21) to rotate. The connection shaft connects the motor shaft to the worm shaft. The elastic part is mounted in the housing for supporting an end of the worm shaft.
