A process for cooling reduced, finely ground iron ore comprises quenching the reduced ore, directly from the reducing furnace and without intermediate cooling from a temperature of 600-1200 DEG C. p into water which is at the same time thoroughly stirred. The reduced ore may be protected by a gas, e.g. nitrogen, during its transfer from the furnace to the quenching bath and may be removed from the quenching bath as a sludge. It is stated that there is no oxidation of the reduced ore during quenching.
|
