PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that a line type image forming apparatus keeps the constitution of a maintenance recovery mechanism complicate, the depth of the apparatus large, and the distance between a plurality of colors long. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a head unit 1 in which a line type recording head for ejecting liquid droplets is held to a base member 12, an ink feeding part 2 which supplies an ink to the recording head of the head unit 1, a conveyance unit 3 which conveys a paper oppositely to the recording head of the head unit 1, a paper supply part 4 which supplies the paper P to the conveyance unit 3, a maintenance recovery unit 5 which is disposed on the paper conveyance direction downstream side of the conveyance unit 3 to carry out maintenance recovery of the line type recording head of the head unit 1, a paper discharge part 6, and a head moving means 7 which moves the head unit 1 along the paper conveyance direction between a position corresponding to the conveyance unit 3 and a position corresponding to the maintenance recovery unit 5 bidirectionally.
