PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the technology for preventing an increase in the gloss of an image fixed to a recording medium lighter than a predetermined weight. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a fixing device 60 that fixes a secondary transfer image to a recording member P by heating the recording member P at a predetermined fixing temperature while conveying it at a predetermined fixing speed; and a control section 40 that determines the type of the recording member P based on predetermined information and controls the fixing speed of the fixing device 60 based on the result of the determination. If the determination is made that the recording member P is lighter than a predetermined weight, the control section 40 decreases the fixing speed of the fixing device 60, compared to the fixing speed of the fixing device 60 which is used in the case where the recording member P is determined to be heavier than the predetermined weight.
