PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the start of cranking when occupants leave a vehicle after the pushing operation of an engine starting switch, in a diesel engine vehicle. SOLUTION: When the engine starting switch 14 of a push-button type is pushed, a controller 10 starts the pre-heating of a glow plug 20 by a glow control portion 18. After starting the pre-heating, a transporting portion 11 and a receiving portion 12 communicate with portable machines 5 held by the occupants, and when the number of the portable machines in the vehicle is decreased, it is determined that the occupants have got off the vehicle. If the getting-off of the occupants is not detected, cranking is carried out after a lapse of a predetermined cranking standby time. On the other hand, if the occupant has got off the vehicle before the cranking standby time has not elapsed, the cranking is prohibited. Therefore, the occupants can leave the vehicle without a fear that the engine starts during the absence of the occupants. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
