The device has a ventilating valve i.e. pressure control valve (11) comprising an opening condition, with which leakage of a medium (Ma) from a space i.e. interior space (12) of a fuel tank, into a space i.e. outer space (36) and a reservoir (16) via the valve. Volumes for the space (36), and complete flow resistance for an exit port (20) are selected such that pressure is formed during leakage of the medium from the space (12) into the space (36). Pressure difference falls to a high value of 0.4 within a time interval based on a pressure difference at a time point. An independent claim is also included for a method for ventilating a fuel tank of a motor vehicle.
