<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a good-looking transflective liquid crystal device which has reduced light leak in an outer peripheral portion of a retardation layer, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 100 as an embodiment of the present invention has a liquid crystal layer 50 sandwiched between an element substrate 10 and an opposed substrate 20, a plurality of sub-pixels SG including a reflection display region R and a transmission display region T, and the retardation layer 26 formed in the reflection display region R on the opposed substrate 20. The retardation layer 26 has an inclined region at its end, a barrier portion 61 is provided as a light shield portion to overlap with the inclined region in plane view, and the end of the retardation layer 26 has a tilt angle of ≤60° to a retardation layer formation surface of the opposed substrate 20 in a cross section of the retardation layer 26. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
