PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system which is extensive in depth of field and is easy in handling. SOLUTION: The optical system imaging light has a low imaging section whose imaging properties are lower than in an area through which the light incident on an area except a predetermined partial area in an image surface passes, in an area through which the light incident on the predetermined partial area in the image surface passes. The low imaging section has such an imaging characteristic that the optical transfer function of the optical system with respect to the light from an object point which passes through the low imaging section and is incident on the predetermined partial area in the image surface is almost the same regardless of a distance up to the object point.
