PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontally sliding screen device which can be installed in adjacent to a wall surface and the like of a building, can be reduced in oscillation or flapping by the pressure of air, is easy to perform opening and closing operations, and has a fine folded shape of a screen sheet after opening operation. SOLUTION: The horizontally sliding screen device comprises superimposing springy plates 52, 52, ..., which is energized in a direction, in which a screen sheet 50 is returned to its original state to be folded, to a screen sheet 50, as a fulcrum of a pole member 30, when the screen sheet 50 is in a deployment condition by the closing operation, and always imparting an appropriate tension to the screen sheet 50 in the deployment conditions by the springy plates 52, 52, .... As a result, the screen sheet 50 is hardly affected with a wind and that the full width of the screen sheet is folded regularly with equal folding density by a slight control force.
