PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair which realizes a flexural deformation condition having appropriate elasticity of a back shell in accordance with a load by adding different characteristics to each of the regions of the shell and does not make a sitter feel an incongruity as if the waist is unnaturally locally pushed out or can restrain a feeling of incongruity from being given to the sitter. SOLUTION: The chair 1 comprises a backrest 7 having a back shell 71 made mainly of an elastic platelike body made from a resin, and a back supporting rod 6 supporting the backrest 7. The back shell 71 integrally has a back shell upper portion 71T forming a curved surface whose right and left side edge portions are projected forward from the width direction center and a lumbar supporting portion 71L and the back shell lower portion 71U forming a curved surface having a larger curvature than the back shell upper portion 71T. The back shell upper portion 71T and the back shell lower portion 71U are supported on the back supporting rod 6 so as to ensure that the lumbar supporting portion 71L is kept in a relatively forward projected shape.
