The invention relates to a system for removing and handling duo-block concrete railway sleepers (cross-ties) comprising two blocks and a metal spacer piece secured to at least one of the two blocks, this system being intended to be used on a railway work train, comprising a tool for taking the sleepers out of the ballast, removal means, two pivoting arms, a means for pushing the said sleepers and causing them to slide along the said pivoting arms, a conveyor which carries the worn sleepers to a storage site, a means of handling the worn sleepers and means of storing the worn sleepers, some of these means being duplicated so that it becomes possible to remove and handle a block individually or to remove and handle a sleeper in a single piece.
