A controller (1040) for a resonant discontinuous forward converter (RDFC), said converter including a transformer (1002) with primary (1002p) and secondary (1002s) matched polarity windings and a switch (1004) to, in operation, cyclically switch DC power to said primary winding (1002p) of said transformer (1002), said converter further having a DC output coupled to said secondary winding (1002s) of said converter, said controller (1040) having a primary sense input (COL) to sense a primary winding signal, s aid primary winding signal representing a voltage across said primary winding (1002p) or across an additional winding coupled to said primary winding, and wherein said controller (1040) is configured to switch on said switch (1004) in response to detection of a reduction in a rate of change of said primary winding signal below a threshold, adjacent a substantially minimum value in an operational cycle of said sensed primary winding signal to convey power to said DC output.
