<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet synchronous motor that reduces the thickness of magnets (the amount of use of magnets) while ensuring demagnetization resistance and torque characteristics, and is applicable to an electric power steering system, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The permanent magnet synchronous motor includes a rotor 22 which has a plurality of permanent magnets 25 arranged on the outer periphery of a rotor core 23 and is supported to be able to rotate freely, and a stator 12 which is disposed outside the rotor 22 and has stator coils 5 and a stator core 3.
