PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assembly of long vascular bundles of a bamboo which has long fibers suitable for manufacturing of block materials, causes less hardening occurring with the lapse of time, and also has excellent adhesiveness, and also to provide a block material which excels in mechanical strength by using this assembly of long vascular bundles of a bamboo. SOLUTION: The assembly is manufactured through the following stages successively: (1) a compression stage in which stems of a bamboo plant are compressed and made planar, (2) a skin removal stage in which the surface part of the stems is removed, (3) a softening stage in which the bamboo materials are immersed in water containing a softener composed of one or more selected from sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, lime, and a surfactant, under the conditions of pressure of 3-10 atm and a temperature of 130-200°C, and (4) a fabric separation stage in which the vascular bundles are separated by compression. The block material is manufactured by impregnating this assembly of long vascular bundles of a bamboo with a thermosetting resin and by molding under heating and pressurizing in a metallic die.
