According to the invention, the coating product obtained through such a method is optimized at an increased level of production safety in that the flat steel product is subjected to a pickling treatment prior to its being placed into the melt bath, wherein manganese oxide adhering to the flat steel product is essentially completely removed in the pickling treatment in a pickling bath.
