<p>A process for the production of ?-mangostin comprising the steps of preparing O-methyl ?-mangostin preferably from plants, subjecting the pure or partially pure O-methylated ?- mangostin to demethylation reaction procedure followed by purification of the said demethylated product to obtain pure ?-mangostin.</p>
