<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector, reducing deterioration of contrast of an image in the projector configured to use diffraction light emitted from a diffraction optical element. <P>SOLUTION: This projector includes: light source devices 12G, 12R, 12B emitting one or more coherent light beams; a diffraction optical element 14 for diffracting the coherent light beams emitted from the light source devices 12G, 12R, 12B to emit diffraction light; a parallel lens 15 for paralleling the light beams of diffraction light emitted from the diffraction optical element 14; and space light modulators 16R, 16G, 16B for modulating the light emitted from the parallel lens 15 according to an image signal, wherein the optical distance between the diffraction optical element 14 and the parallel lens 15 is eight times as large as the maximum value of a length between the position where the optical axis of the parallel lens 15 intersects in an incident plane or an extended plane of extending the incident plane of the diffraction optical element 14 where the coherent light beams from the light source devices 12G, 12R, 12B enter and the incident position of the coherent light beams in the incident plane. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
