PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device capable of easily removing contaminant adhering to the surface of an electrode, thereby preventing nonuniform charging potential of the surface of a photoreceptor, and maintaining the charging potential of the surface of the photoreceptor at an appropriate range for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A vibrating part that vibrates, thereby vibrating a needle-like electrode 51 is formed on the needle-like electrode 51 that charges the surface of a photoreceptor drum 23. This vibrating part is a piezo-electric bimorph element 100 which has two piezo-electric elements 102 and 103 stuck together with an electrode layer 101 between them. When a voltage is applied to the piezo-electric bimorph element 100, its free end curves and vibrates. Consequently, contaminant adhering to the surface of the needle-like electrode 51 can be easily removed by vibration. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
