PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a porous material by which the porous material is formed having a thickness of less than 1μm, a high transmission, and comparatively high hardness. SOLUTION: The method for producing the porous material comprises: a coating fluid preparation step of mixing a curable composition capable of curing by curing treatment with an additive to prepare a uniformly dissolved coating fluid; a coating film-forming step of coating the coating fluid on a substrate to form a coated film; a curing step of subjecting the coated film to the curing treatment to form a cured coated film; and an additive removal step of removing the additive from the cured coated film. The curable composition comprises a cationically polymerizable monomer, and the additive undergoes phase-separation from the cured product of the curing composition in the cured coated film.
