<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a characteristic recovery method for a fuel cell, capable of simply using and maintaining high capability during the lifetime of the fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell has at least one step of recovering the capacity of the fuel cell, by temporarily reducing temperature of the fuel cell rather than normal operation temperature during while using the fuel cell. The recovery step executed during a preset period is driven, when voltage of a terminal of the fuel cell or temperature of the fuel cell is reduced, rather than its threshold value.
