PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing glucuronic acid and/or glucuronolactone. SOLUTION: The glucuronic acid and/or the glucuronolactone is produced by treating a polyglucuronic acid obtained by oxidizing starch, amylose or amylopectin with bacteria of the genus Paenibacillus cultured by using the polyglucuronic acid as a growth substrate, or a glucoside bond-hydrolytic enzyme (α-1,4-glucuronidase) derived from the bacteria.
