A frame is mounted on rods (42,44) to slide along the rod. A head restraint is mounted to frame for supporting a head of an occupant. A locking shaft (52) cooperates with stopper and the frame. The stopper is provided with projections that are engaged/disengaged with respect to notches in locking shaft for sliding the head restraint and frame along the rod. An actuator controls the shaft to slide head restraint and frame along the rod. An independent claim is included for vehicle seat.
