The invention described herein provides novel nitric oxide-releasing polyurethanes, polyureas, and copolymers thereof. The polymers of the invention comprise at least two polyurethane/polyurea repeat units and contain at least one nitrogen-bound diazeniumdiolate. The diazeniumdiolated polyurethane/polyurea-based polymers can be used in medical devices, such as wound dressings. The invention also provides compositions and medical devices comprising such diazeniumdiolated polymers and methods of preparing and using such compounds.
