PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform arbitrary clipping fast using an ordinary graphic drawing device and a photographic drawing device, and to eliminate a memory for mask by using the remaining memory area. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises a band image generating means of generating a band image; a band image storage means of storing the band image; a clipping pattern information generating means of making a line scan in each vertical direction of arbitrary clipping information and generating a pattern having a start point and an end point crossing a horizontal line; a clipping pattern information storage means of storing clipping pattern information; a clipping mask drawing means of reading in the clipping pattern information, drawing mask bits in the band image, and storing it in the band image storage means; and a photographic image processing means of reading in the mask bits, drawn by the clipping mask drawing means by the band image generating means and performing drawing processing on a photographic image based on the values of the mask bits.
