PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasmon generator element which can collect plasmon to generate near-field light despite of its simple structure, and also provide a magnetic head capable of heat assist magnetic recording by using it, and a head gimbal assembly, and a hard disk drive capable of high density magnetic recording. SOLUTION: The emitting section EX is arranged at an end of a recessed groove GR2 prepared on a base metal layer 1E. The base metal layer 1E forms the recessed groove GR2, since it is deposited on an upper insulation layer 1D following the shape of the recessed groove GR1 on the upper insulation layer 1D. The recessed groove GR2 includes a bottom BF parallel to the YZ plane and sides SF erected at both ends of the bottom BF. The plasmon PM propagating the bottom BF of the recessed groove GR2 concentrates on the emitting section EX. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
