PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable wavelength type spectroscopic instrument with a high use efficiency of light. SOLUTION: The spectroscopic instrument comprises: a single or multi-stage variable wavelength Fabry-Perot type filter having a pair of substrates each of which has an electrode film and a reflective film laminated on the surface, having a liquid crystal layer formed between the pair of substrates arranged at a prescribed spacing so as to face each other, and transmitting both of ordinary light and extraordinary light; and a fixed wavelength filter, wherein the single or multi-stage variable wavelength Fabry-Perot type filter and the fixed wavelength filter are arranged on an optical path reaching a prescribed plane from a light source, such that at least one of the ordinary light and the extraordinary light reaches a prescribed light receiving plane.
