PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound having MCH antagonist activity. SOLUTION: This invention discloses compounds represented by formula (I) äthese are new antagonists for melanine concentrated hormone (MCH)} and a method of preparing these compounds. These compounds are represented by structural formula (I) described in this specification or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, solvates, or prodrugs. In another embodiment, there are disclosed medicinal compositions containing such MCH antagonist, and methods of treating obesity, metabolic disorder, eating disorders (e.g., hyperphasia), and diabetes using them.
