PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance display quality in an IPS mode liquid crystal display using a positive liquid crystal and performing line inversion driving. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display, a counter electrode is divided for each display line, each interval between the counter electrode of one display line and the counter electrode of an adjacent display line extends along an extending direction of the display line as a whole though being locally curved, the interval includes a first part extending along an extending direction of an image line and a second part extending along a direction crossing the image line from the first part, a direction of an initial alignment axis of a liquid crystal layer is in a range of +5 to +20°or -5 to -20°clockwise to the image line, 88°≤θ1≤92°is satisfied when an angle measured clockwise from the initial alignment axis of the liquid crystal layer to the second part of the interval is defined asθ1, the image line is made of a light shielding material and the first part of the interval is two-dimensionally superposed on the image line.
