<p>Subject: A process for producing a magnetic recording medium, having a magnetic recording layer and a protective layer on a substrate which is a non-magnetic support, wherein the medium is able to greatly inhibit migration of a lubricant from the protective layer to the surface of the metal pressing plate having a mirrored finish in a hot pressing step during production of the magnetic recording medium, while maintaining satisfactory scratch resistance, suitable adhesion with the magnetic recording layer and the protective layer, and excellent read and write properties of the magnetic recording medium. Means to Achieve the Subject: A process for producing a magnetic recording medium, comprising: forming a laminate on a substrate which is a non-magnetic support, wherein the laminate has an adhesive layer, a magnetic recording layer and a protective layer in this order from the side near the substrate, and embedding the laminate into the substrate by carrying out hot pressing on the protective layer to provide a level smooth plane formed by the surface of the substrate and the uppermost surface of the laminate; wherein the protective layer contains a binder resin and particles composed of a mixture including polyethylene and polytetrafluoroethylene.</p> |
