A poultry raising system comprising a poultry house (10) and facilities of the poultry house, wherein the facilities comprise a lighting unit for irradiating poultry (6), and the lighting unit comprises semiconductor light sources (1, 11) and radiates a light radiated by the semiconductor light sources which has a peak wavelength within a range of from 550 to 650 nm. A light having a peak wavelength within the above range exerts desirable effects on sexual maturation, appetite, desire for sleep and control of visceral organs. A light having a shorter peak wavelength than the above range, which includes ultraviolet rays, loads stress on poultry and attracts harmful insects or the like. A light having a longer peak wavelength, which includes infrared rays, causes an increase in the poultry house temperature or the poultry temperature. According to the above-described system, it is possible to radiate a light with such wavelength as having a peak wavelength within the specific range and being effective for fattening. Because of having a high conversion efficiency from electricity to heat, this system has a high economic potential and contributes to the reduction of CO2 output. The risk of globe breakage caused by quench can be reduced and an increase in the poultry house temperature can be prevented. Since the system has a prolonged life, the risk, labor and cost at change can be cut down. Thus, meat yield and egg yield can be increased and economic properties and safety can be improved. |
