PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve video playback more appropriate for a user. SOLUTION: There are provided an instruction input section for inputting an instruction from a user and a playback control section for playing back motion picture data. When an instruction for changing a playback position is inputted from the instruction input section, the playback control section changes the playback position using a starting position of a scene, corresponding to a designated level inputted from the instruction input section, among starting positions of a plurality of scenes stored in index data generated by an index data generating section.
