PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve user-friendliness of a portable recording device 20. SOLUTION: The pivot mode of one and the other directional microphones 22 and 23 which are so held as to pivot individually is switched by a pivot mode switching section 46 to a desired pivot mode from among a first pivot mode wherein the directional microphones can pivot individually and a second pivot mode wherein the directional microphones are made to pivot in conjunction with each other by a conjunction pivoting section 45. Thereby, when collecting external sound, the pivot mode of the one and the other directional microphones 22 and 23 can be switched to a desired pivot mode from among the first and second pivot modes in response to user's request, and at the same time, the one and the other directional microphones 22 and 23 can be pivoted to a desired pivot angle in both the first and the second pivot modes.
