PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic light emitting element which stabilizes element characteristics by suppressing the diffusion of metal atoms incorporated in the element. SOLUTION: The organic light emitting element 10 is composed of: an anode 2 and a cathode 7; and a laminate held between the anode 2 and cathode 7 and having at least an organic compound layer, a diffusion preventive layer 5, and an electron injection layer 6. The diffusion preventive layer 5 is made of a crystalline inorganic material. The electron injection layer 6 contains alkali metal, alkaline metal oxide, alkali metal salt, alkaline earth metal, alkaline earth metal oxide, or alkaline earth metal salt.
