PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-definition, high-picture-quality, and high-contrast PDP, bright yet with life guaranteed, and capable of being stably driven, with restrained degradation with time of address discharge delay. SOLUTION: The image display device is provided with a plurality of discharge cells each equipped with at least bus electrodes formed on a front substrate, a sustaining discharge electrode pair set in parallel in a short-side direction of the bus electrodes for forming a display line, and an address electrode. Each discharge cell consists of a sustaining discharge cell 61 and a priming discharge cell 62, and a required gap 60 for priming supply between the sustaining discharge cell and the priming discharge cell, and a priming electrode is arranged extended from the bus electrode toward a priming cell side, so arranged that the sustaining discharge may not be expanded to the priming discharge cell through the gap.
