PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing instrument having a ceramic shaft cylinder 1 configured so that an edge portion 1A of the shaft cylinder 1 is not touched by user's fingers. SOLUTION: An outer flange 2A is formed on a front member 2 located in the front position of the shaft cylinder 1. The outer flange 2A of the front member 2 has an inclined surface that is made thicker backwardly in the longitudinal direction, and a curved surface is formed on the apex portion 2B of the outer flange 2A.
