An efficiently cooled screw type kneader. A screw type kneader (1) is provided with a barrel (3) having a chamber (2) which is a tubular hollow section, and also with a screw (4) rotating in the chamber (2). In the chamber (2) are formed a supply opening (9) to which a material to be kneaded (8) is supplied and a kneaded-product discharge opening (7) which is located at the front end of the chamber and from which a kneaded product is discharged. In a side portion of the barrel (3), there are formed, as through openings, a cooling opening (10) communicating with the chamber (2) and an air drawing opening (11) located closer to the front end of the chamber than the cooling opening (10) and communicating with the chamber (2). Further, the cooling opening (10) is provided with a volatile refrigerant ejecting device (6) for ejecting a volatile refrigerant (20) toward the chamber (2). |
