<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-band quarter-wave plate such that influence of rotatory power is corrected when a quarter-wave plate is constituted by using a birefringent optical material, such as quartz, having rotatory power. <P>SOLUTION: The rotatory power compensation wide-band quarter-wave plate is constituted by forming wavelength plates A and B of the same optical material having rotatory power and placing them one over the other so that the optical axes cross each other. The wide-band quarter-wave plate is characterized in that an optimum value can be obtained by short-time simulation by calculating three approximate expressions (1) to (3) first and performing simulation within a range where an expression (4) or (5) is satisfied, characteristics are very excellent, and influence of rotatory power is corrected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
