<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect, as continuous values, a position to which an object contacts or gets close within a contact area in which capacitance sensors are disposed, using a minimized number of capacitance sensors. <P>SOLUTION: An intensity acquisition part 12 acquires intensities of capacitance changes detected by capacitance sensors 21-1 to 21-4 as detection results in a case in which the sensors are annularly disposed to a first quadrant to a fourth quadrant. A horizontal direction calculation part 31 calculates a horizontal detection position of the contact or close position of the object by subtracting the sum of the detection result of the second quadrant and the third quadrant from the sum of the detection results of the first quadrant and the fourth quadrant. A vertical direction calculation part 32 detects a vertical detection position of the contact or close position of the object by subtracting the sum of the detection results of the third quadrant and the fourth quadrant from the sum of the detection results of the first quadrant and the second quadrant. A position output part 14 outputs the horizontal and vertical positions of the contact or adjacent position of the object.
