PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for setting the amount of illumination light and capable of easily setting it in such a way as to have the same amount of illumination light as an illumination setting value set for every section to be measured without having to modify the illumination setting value in the case that the amount of light of an illumination means has changed in an image measuring apparatus. SOLUTION: The image measuring apparatus is provided with a camera for imaging a plurality of sections to be measured on the basis of preset measuring procedures and an illumination unit 19 for illuminating the sections to be measured, makes reference to an illumination setting value L<SB>P</SB>preset for every section to be measured, and measures the size and shape of an object to be measured as illuminating illumination light of an amount corresponding to this by the illumination unit 19. The method for setting the amount of illumination light is provided with an instruction signal output process for outputting an instruction signal which allows to illuminate with the amount of illumination light corresponding to the illumination set value L<SB>P</SB>set for every section to be measured; an offset value providing process for providing the instruction signal with an offset value L<SB>0</SB>and providing them for the illumination means; and a setting process for variably setting the offset value L<SB>0</SB>.
