Medical device assists diastolic function and prevents ventricular enlargement. A plurality of elastically deformable elements (6) are compressably elastically deformable from a relatively radially expanded configuration to a relatively radially unexpanded configuration, and bond firmly to the walls of a left ventricle (2). The elastically deformable elements (6) help the ventricle (2) expand and fill with blood during the diastolic period while having little affect on systolic performance and further provide structural support to prevent ventricular enlargement. Restraining members may limit radial expansion of the elastically deformable elements.
