A color filter, a manufacturing method thereof and a liquid crystal display unit employing the same are provided to secure a highly precious black matrix and to inhibit the generation of the upthrust portion of the boundary of the black matrix and a coloring pixel. A method for manufacturing a color filter comprises the following steps of: forming a photosensitive dark-colored composition layer(4) on a substrate(2); exposing and developing it to form a black matrix pattern having undercut 2.0mum~5.0mum in length; baking the black matrix pattern; forming a photosensitive coloring composition layer on the substrate and exposing and developing it; and baking to form a coloring pattern.
