It is possible to provide a fluorescent material having a high luminance, little luminance degradation during light emitting device drive and a manufacturing process, and a chromaticity y equivalent to BAM:Eu in a PDP. A blue fluorescent material of the present invention may be expressed by a general expression: xSrO yEuO MgO zSiO2 (2.970 <= x <= 3.500, 0.001 <= y <= 0.030, 1.900 <= z <= 2.100). In the X-ray diffraction pattern measured by X-ray having a wavelength of 0.774 Angstrom, a main peak is present in a range from 16.1 to 16.5 degrees at the diffraction angle 2Theta, and at lest one of the following conditions [A1] and [A2] is satisfied. [A1] The peak top is within a range from 15.3 to 16.1 degrees at the diffraction angle 2Theta, and at least two peaks exist; [A2] The peak top is within a range from 22.2 to 23.3 degrees at the diffraction angle 2Theta, and at least two peaks exist.
