The curtain coating device comprises an edge guide for guiding a curtain delivered by a coating head of the coating device. The edge guide guides with its interior area (2j) of the edge of the falling curtain. A lubricating liquid flows downward to the interior surface of the edge guide. A supply opening (2c) is intended in the upper area of the interior surface and a suction opening (2e) is intended in the lower area of the interior surface. The interior surface is equipped in a lateral area between the supply opening and the suction opening with a water absorbing coating (2f).
