The present invention is in the field of methods for applying a protective coating onto a substrate, and more particularly, methods for applying a protective coating by application of a metal compound onto the hot glass surfaces using a chemical-vapor deposition (CVD) technique, the method comprising heating a liquid coating composition to a temperature of 200°C or more, vaporizing it and contacting the substrate having a temperature of 500°C or more.
