An automatic brightness control apparatus and method of a display is provided to control automatically display brightness according to ambient luminance, thereby preventing the eye fatigue of a user. An automatic brightness control apparatus(100) of a display comprises a camera module(102), a second connector unit(108), a controller(118), a backlight driver(116), and a display unit(112). An image sensor unit(104) senses luminance according to the circumference brightness. The controller receives the luminance information of luminance sensed through the first connector unit and the second connector unit. The controller applies a control signal according to brightness information corresponding to the received luminance information. The backlight driver applies a brightness driving signal the control signal according to brightness information.
