839,764. Roller-ring briquetting presses. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Oct. 15, 1956 [Oct. 17, 1955], No. 29507/55. Class 87(2). Coal or coal products are briquetted by feeding the material into a gap formed between a rotating ring and a rotating roller mounted eccentrically within the ring. The peripheral speeds of the ring and roll being between 1À03 : 1 and 1À40 : 1. The ratio is preferably between 1À07 : 1 and 1À15 : 1. One or more rollers may be located within one or more rings. Both the roller and the ring may be positively driven or one may drive the other by means of the friction of the material being briquetted, the required difference in speed being obtained by braking the frictionally driven member. The moulding surfaces of the roller and ring may be plain or configured. Two rollers 10, 11, mounted on a positively driven shaft 13, are located within a ring 23, mounted on rollers 24, 28, and form with the ring 23 two moulding spaces for the material M under compression. The roller 24 is movable, by hydraulic rams 20 in cylinder 21, acting on its shaft 22 to vary the compression force between the rollers 10, 11 and the ring 23. The material is fed to the gap by a screw feeder 51, Fig. 4 (not shown), and after compression broken into briquettes by a " plough " 27. A brake 25 controls the speed of the ring 23. A system by which both the rollers 10, 11, and the ring 23, Fig. 3 (not shown), are positively driven by variable speed hydraulic motors is described. Specification 807,433 is referred to.
