A washing machine and a method of controlling the washing machine are provided to maximize spin-drying performance without delaying spin-drying time and reduce vibration and noise generated during spin-drying. A washing machine includes a drum and a motor(26). The drum receives clothes. The motor rotates the drum. A method of controlling the washing machine includes a step of determining whether spin-drying is performed, a step of measuring an unbalance variation of first spin-drying when it is determined that spin-drying is performed, and a step of changing spin-drying profile of second spin-drying based on the measured unbalance variation of the first spin-drying.
