A moving vector search method and an apparatus thereof for searching a motion vector at high speed are provided to reduce a time for searching a movement vector by searching the movement vector based on a search point. A reference value extractor(121) extracts color difference signal value about the center of the search window which is set up in the current frame. A first pattern extractor(122) extracts points positioned in the regular first pattern. A second pattern extracting unit(123) extracts points positioned in the regular second pattern. A large diamond search pattern extractor extracts points included in the big diamond search pattern. An error energy operator computes the extracted error energy of the angular point.
