The method involves transmitting power of a heat engine (10) and/or electrical machine (12) to a drive wheel (18) of a vehicle. The transmitted power is adapted to power required for the wheel using a manually controlled or robotized gearbox (16). The electrical machine is coupled to a main electrical energy storage device e.g. lithium-ion battery. The machine is coupled to a secondary electrical energy storage device by an electrical coupling unit e.g. switching unit, during changing of gear ratio. The secondary device is different from the main storage device and formed of super-capacitors. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a vehicle.
