The key (1) has an interface (11) for receiving digital data, where three interfaces (11-13) transmit position information (120) and state information (140) of a vehicle (2). The interface (12) is constituted by a short range wireless communication interface such as Bluetoothinterface, and the interface (13) is constituted by a short range wireless communication interface such as infrared interface or radio-frequency interface having a frequency band equal to 315, 434 or 868 megahertz. A memory stores the position information received by the interface (11). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a communication system comprising a portable telecommunication terminal (2) a method for communicating position information and information representing a state of a vehicle from an electronic key towards a portable telecommunication terminal.
